The panelists: Erica Burns of Erica Burns Interiors, Joe Richardson of Richardson & Associates Landscape Architects, and Wayne Adams of BVA BarnesVanze Architects engaged in a lively discussion about working in Georgetown. They covered topics of sustainability, downsizing, and respecting history and nature while modernizing spaces.

Melvin Hooks shared how B&B Italia’s design philosophy shapes everything they do. Committed to sustainability, many original 70s furniture molds are still in use today.

Erica Burns talked about incorporating clients’ antiques and family treasures to add a sense of personal history to the spaces she designs.

Joe Richardson discussed the challenges of designing in small spaces and the need of having to replace older, damaged trees. But he said he will be going to ‘Tree Heaven’ having planted many more than he removed.

Wayne Adams explained how retrofitting older homes with modern upgrades can be achieved without compromising historical craftsmanship. He helps clients manage expectations while working the design approval process with the Old Georgetown Board.
