Sugar and Champagne for the Humans

Sugar and champagne for the humans and gourmet doggie treats for the four-legged stars of the evening. . . Last night’s Washington Humane Society’s 9th annual Society Sugar and Champagne Affair attracted a hugely happy crowd – the largest in the events’ history according to Humane Society CEO Lisa LaFontaine.  Perhaps because the humans were on a sugar high and possibly under the influence of the bubbly, the canine guests compensated by being well-mannered, companionable and, some, very stylish.

Chef Todd and Ellen Gray of Equinox Restaurant and Salamander Hospitality hosted the dessert and champagne reception. Over 40 restaurants showed off their best desserts and 14 suppliers provided champagne, wines and other beverages.

The event honored Washington Humane Society Officers, “who work 24-hours a day, saving the homeless, lost, neglected and abused animals and conducting our Humane Education program that teaches elementary school children compassion and respect for animals.”
