84-Year-Old Woman Mugged-Update
On Thursday, the 14th, an 84-year-old woman was mugged on her doorstep after walking back from the M St. Bank of America at noon. As she was opening her door, a "barrel-chested, bulky man [with] light to medium African American complexion, [and] no facial hair" pushed her into the house and knocked her to the floor. He hit her face, bruising it, then grabbed her purse, and ran out the front door. The mugger maxed-out her credit cards at nearby gas stations.
UPDATE: From Commander Matt Klein
Police searched the area and stopped someone matching the description given by the victim. However, the victim said it was not the offender.
The offender is described "as a black male, black hair, 40 – 45 years of age, 6’1” to 6’2” in height, a stocky build, wearing a black coat and pants."
Police are still looking for the suspect. People close to the victim say "she is healing and shaken, but will be ok."

No Parking Signs Annoy Neighborhood
Carol Joynt wrote a letter to Mayor Fenty, Jack Evans, and ANC2E expressing unhappiness at temporary no parking signs posted in Georgetown. From her website: "For the past week we had 'no parking' signs taped to the trees and sign posts covering half the block, effective from early in the morning until 5 PM each day, including Saturday. But nothing happened. No city work crews, no moving vans. No one and nothing showed up to employ the empty stretches of road, and all the while residents were denied at least 20 spaces." More signs were posted the next day, renewing the restriction.

Leonsis Could Buy Wizards
$400 million is a lot of money. No wonder Ted Leonsis is asking for more time to make a decision to buy the Wizards. He is currently negotiating with the estate of Abe Pollin, with one deadline set for Wednesday. Leonsis, a Georgetown University graduate, who recently bought a condo in the West Village, has worked wonders for the Capitals, and fans hope he can do the same for the Wizards. Leonsis has first option to purchase the rest of Pollin's holdings, which was agreed upon when Leonsis purchased the Capitals in 1999. If the two parties cannot agree on a price, the sale of the team can be opened to other buyers. Read the rest here.

Helping Haiti Quickly
Tweeting and texting or old fashioned contributing online all are ways you can get help to earthquake victims in Haiti. Surprisingly, texting or tweeting cash donations may be slower than using your credit card online, because money may not be distributed to the charity you have chosen until you pay your phone bill containing that charge. But no one is saying you shouldn’t choose to text donations if that fits your life style best. Check out the Mobile Giving Foundation for more information.
Best advice is to donate to relief organizations already working in Haiti, such as:
- Mercy Corp
- American Red Cross
- Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)’s United States operations
- Food for the Poor
- The United Nations Foundation for the UN Central Emergency Response Fund.
