The Burleith Citizens Association is ramping up its opposition to the Georgetown University expansion plan with a yard sign campaign. "We now have lawn signs as the next step in voicing our strong opposition," says the neighborhood's website. The organization is asking neighbors to join the campaign by hosting the signs in front yards.

Two messages are available: "Our Homes, Not GU's Dorm" and, simply, "Oppose GU Campus Plan." Signs are available by emailing: lawnsigns@burleith.org.

The group is also asking for donations to pay for planning and land-use experts to fortify the neighborhood's case "when we anticipate going before the Zoning Commission in September or October."

"GU has not filed its plan as of today with the Office of Planning," says the website.

Great job Burleith! Georgetown University is quick to state how they are going to be a premiere world class Institution, yet they treat the neighborhood they reside in like S&%^!

Fellow Burleith Residents, this is absurd. I fully support engaging with the University in a conversation about how they can fix all of the student problems, but the truth is we all knew Georgetown was here when we bought our houses- it's been there since before any of us were born! In fact, many of us knew it was what helped to keep the property value high. There's a difference between voicing concern and being unreasonable. Let's learn the line.

Wouldnt it be easier to figure out how to work with the University instead of objecting to EVERYTHING THEY DO!!!
you all appear as a bunch of grumpy old people. You people object to EVERYTHING! I live in Georgetown and have the highest regard for the University and what they are trying to accomplish. I believe the University was there when you all purchased your property. The world has so many bigger issues to focus on then this silliness!!
Georgetown University is a highly selctive world class institution.

Georgetown University can do whatever it wants since it has been here since 1789. The community can stick it.

Dear "community can stick it": The university was named after the neighborhood; the neighborhood was not named after the university. In fact, founded in 1751, the city of Georgetown substantially predated the establishment of the city of Washington and the District of Columbia (1790). It's unfortunate the university isn't more respectful of the neighborhood it chose to plant roots.
