Now in its eighth year, Friends of Book Hill celebrated the 2010 Fourth of July Doggie Parade in Book Hill Park Saturday. Parade organizer, Ginny Poole explained why she does it, " To promote the park, and of course, it's lots of fun."
It was also an opportunity to meet Haley, a very special Rat Terrier Mix, seen here with Ava Rentzepis (in pigtails) and foster mom Wendy Grubb.

my favorite, Sir Sushi Luther Schmitt of 333? N St NW placed 2nd in the Smallest Dog group
Thank you to all the participants for this article; looks as if it was a fun time, indeed!
A word about Haley, who is available for adoption---I am Wendy Grubbs' mom, and initially had the complete care of Haley on weekdays the first four weeks of her fostering time with Wendy. She was a complete stranger, and we didn't know how she would be around Wendy's two dogs, in the car, etc. Wendy and Fred picked her up from WARL, put her in the UV with their 16 year old son and two WARL adoptees, and drove straight to a vacation rental house an hour and a half away. She was fine with the ride and other dogs. Alone with me, she was just SO perfect, never made a "mistake" in the house, was good on a leash, loved her walks---
She stands on her back legs and "dances" (e.g., for a treat), and the family consensus is that she is VERY bright. She's a cuddlesome LITTLE dog, with definite watchdog potential.
Fabulous coverage and photos!
I wanted to come to this dog parade but the ad in the Northwest Current incorrectly listed it as on July 4th not July 3rd. Oops! Maybe next year.
Another great Book Hill Doggie Parade!
Thanks to Ginny and John for keeping this event going for eight years!!
Bravo!
