Blossoms Galore Right Next Door

Explore Dumbarton Oaks Gardens.

You know the Museum, the Library, the Park and the Concerts but have you taken a walk through Dumbarton Oaks Gardens?

In 1920 Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss found their ideal country house and garden on a fifty-three-acre property, described as an old-fashioned house standing in rather neglected grounds, at the highest point of Georgetown.

Within a year, the Blisses hired landscape gardener Beatrix Farrand to design the garden. Working in collaboration for almost thirty years, Mildred Bliss and Beatrix Farrand planned every garden detail, each terrace, bench, urn, and border.

Open 2:00–6:00 p.m. (last public entry will be permitted at 5:30 p.m.), Tuesday–Sunday, except for federal holidays. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

Dumbarton Oaks Gardens is located at 1703 32nd Street in Georgetown.
