Georgetowners Shop Local

Holiday gift ideas from our neighbors.

Compiled by Miss Georgetown, Elizabeth Miller

Don’t forget Small Business Saturday on November 30th (two days after Thanksgiving).  More than 25 small businesses in Georgetown are offering specials on that day - find the complete list here.  It includes $100 off any $500+ purchase at Georgetown Optician, Miss Georgetown’s all-time favorite Georgetown shop.

Eileen McGrath (P Street):  Village Art & Craft on Wisconsin (above Q) sells beautiful cotton table cloths, robes and dinner napkins and the prices are amazing!!  Oliver Dunn for darling petit vases with little embellishments.  Amano for wonderful candles, holiday candies and chic table ware/coffee table books wrapped to look like they cost a million!  Pillar & Post for special Anglo-style gifts of all kinds.Beth Hague: Topiaries, ornaments, and candles from Manse and Oliver Dunn.  Candles, tabletop accessories and hostess gifts from Amano.  Cards from Made in DC.

Ankie Barnes (Q Street):  The most unique gifts for the Holidays can be found this week only at artist Ella Barnes' Pop-up art show of her cyanotypes "Painting with Sunlight" at 3210 Grace Street 10.00am-3.00pm (a shameless father's plug!).  As an architect I am drawn to unique stores that help create unique environments, three of them are: Manse - a fabulous curated home store at 3210 O Street NW, and next door, The Georgetown Garden Shop at 3214 O Street NW with terrific plants, pots and all things garden, Moss and Co full of elegant home ware, objects and artwork at 1567 Wisconsin Ave. NW.

Dan Sallick (30th Street):  For the person who has everything … link here.

Jennifer Romm (30th Street):  Boat House Apparel is the sweetest shop in Georgetown.  Located along the Canal at 31st Street it is a treasure trove of Georgetown themed gifts.  My favorite is the Georgetown friendship bracelet.  It’s super cute and I love the sentiment.  The Phoenix is a top go to on my holiday shopping travels.  Their unique artisan jewelry is available in all price points so there is something for almost everyone.  Last year I got little silver heart earrings for my nieces and I was the bomb!  The English Rose Garden has exquisite orchids and fresh flowers that last forever.  They make the perfect hostess gift.

Gwen Lohse (O Street):  Pillar & Post has beautiful one-of-a-kind options for the home when you are looking for something special, and they have festive English brands that make great stocking stuffers or hostess gifts.  Made in DC offers a very fun (delicious) Gingerbread cookie making kit for kids, and I always find a few beautiful things at A Mano for family members, especially love their embroidery service (and fancy Holiday wrapping).

Deb Johns (R Street):  Sid and Ann Mashburn feature modern classics for men and women…. Adding unexpected accessories, clever gifts and curated coffee table books for style centric friends and family on your list!
Nancy Taylor Bubes (K Street):  Amano - so much great stuff there - love how they stamp leather bound books with people’s names and monogram anything in a day.  Dying to scope out the new Barnes and Noble - I think we all need to find something to buy there - not hard - to show how we love them!!!

Shari Diamond (32nd Street):  Blue Mercury is always a go to for holiday gifts. You can always pick up candles, creams and something that smells delicious.

Liz D’Angio (O Street):  I’m still loving Diptyque candles and obsessed with the deconstructed caesar salad at Osteria Mozza. Not exactly a gift but I could eat 10 of them (Miss Georgetown’s note: gift cards are gifts too)!

Ashley Burke (Volta Place):  The Phoenix ... I love buying one of their small Uashmama totes and filling it with a selection of the fantastic candles, bath salts, lotions and other pampering items from the store. As a hostess gift, I pop in and grab three of their amazing Deux Cranes chocolate bars and tie one of their beautiful orange ribbons around them.

Florence Auld (N Street):  I just love the The Georgetown Garden Shop on O Street.  The holiday waxed amaryllis make the perfect hostess gift, as well as beautiful hand made garden pots made from Portugal.

Alison Jia (P Street):  Books from Bridge Street Books.  Beautiful things from Manse, Georgetown Garden Shop, The Phoenix, Oliver Dunn, Take Care and don’t sleep on the gift shop at Dumbarton Oaks.

Elizabeth Miller (30th Street):  It’s nice to head to UltraViolet for a small bouquet of flowers for your hostess.  If you tell them you have $20, $30, $40 they’ll do something pretty and wrap it with a bow.  I love Ally Banks shop for napkins, candles, and art.  Take Care is a little slice of heaven … get a gift certificate for a facial or pick up one of their special all-natural products - I especially like Ilia and Vintner’s Daughter.  And, I am gobsmacked by all the tabletop items at Tuckernuck (they also have some very cute ornaments ranging from a stick of butter to bacon strips - two of my favorite ingredients…😉).
