The Movie in My Mind
Interior designer Ken Fulk talks about his new book at Washington Winter Show.

“Like a reel on a never-ending loop, these ‘movies in my mind,’ as I call them, are a swirling amalgamation of ideas inspired by my travels, film, fashion, art, history, novels or something as elemental as the scent of a dwindling fire.” Ken Fulk

Interior designer Ken Fulk regaled a standing-room-only crowd Friday at Washington Winter Show's lecture and luncheon with his personal cinematic journey beginning as a four-year-old boy from rural Virginia who dreamed of living in a penthouse in Manhattan.

From homes, hotels, restaurants, private planes and world-class events, Fulk’s designs over the past 30 years have landed him on Architectural Digest’s AD100, Elle Decor’s A-List twice and nominated for a James Beard Award for his hospitality projects.

His signature cinematic flair has been captured in a lavishly photographed first book, The Movie In My Mind. Fulk shared his inspiration for some of his most iconic projects and how he approaches all his work as a director.

The designer graciously signed books following the luncheon.
