The River and the Town

A Mural by Andrea Limauro at Georgetown Waterfront

“The River and the Town” – a new, temporary art installation along the Georgetown waterfront honors Earth Day on April 22, 2025

Artist in Residence at Georgetown University’s Earth Commons Institute, Andrea Limauro tells past, present and future stories of life, flood risk and resilience in the vast Potomac River floodplain that affects Georgetown and DC.

The mural was painted live throughout March and unveiled this month, where it will remain on display at the waterfront before permanently moving to Georgetown University’s campus later this year. “The River and the Town” is supported by the Georgetown BID and Georgetown Heritage and is part of a year-long series on climate change commissioned by the Washington Post, where Limauro will paint one mural for each season, in each quadrant of DC.
