Watch for the Art of Restoration at Tudor Place Feb. 21

Meet master restorerers George Thomas and Hartwig Balke on February 21 at Tudor Place. They'll explain how watches were made in the 18th century and discuss how to recognize poorly made repairs.

The 1741 English pocket watch recently donated to Tudor Place by the Magruder family will be the starting point of a presentation by these master restorers of time pieces . According to family history, the timepiece was a gift from George Washington to Eleanor Calvert (of Maryland's founding family) upon her marriage to his stepson. After 270 years in private hands, it was donated to Tudor Place in 2011.
